North Caloocan's PANGARAP ELEMENTARY SCHOOL is a public elementary school with around 3,000 students. Due to a dispute over property ownership, the power distribution company is prohibited from installing electricity, thus the school classrooms must rely on the sunshine that enters via the jalousie windows.
“We are grateful that Berjaya sponsored the installation of solar panels to illuminate parts of our classrooms,” the school principal, Ms. Jennifer Placente, stated to Mr. Tan Eng Hwa, CEO of Berjaya Philippines, when he visited the school to hand over the P 127,500.00 donation.
“Berjaya Philippines replied to the Department of Education’s request for the participation of the business sector in improving public education. With Pangarap Elementary School using our donation to install solar panels to light up the classrooms and power the electric fans, we hope that the plight of the students will be easier to manage so that they can focus on achieving their academic potential,” Mr. Tan said during the signing of the Memorandum of Agreement and transfer of the donation funds.
